City Skin Saviours

antipollution skincare city skin saviours

As somewhat normal city life resumes, so does the effect of air pollution on our skin. Increasingly, there is more research being done on how air pollution and reduced air quality affects our skin by depleting its antioxidant levels and disrupting the all important skin barrier.

As a result we can experience dry, faster aging and inflamed skin. To soothe and restore city skin, here are some of my favourite antipollution skincare products worth incorporating into your routine. And of course, every regime should include sunscreen as your final step. Here are my top picks that work well under makeup.

Dr Barbara Sturm Anti-Pollution Drops*

A soothing, botanical serum that refreshes, hydrates and replenishes the skin barrier. A potent yet gentle serum suitable for sensitive skin too.

Skinceuticals CE Ferulic*

This antioxidant boosting serum is a potent blend of 15% pure vitamin C, 1% vitamin E and 0.5% Ferulic acid. An effective combination to improve skin texture and firmness, brighten and protect against free radicals and environmental aggressors. It absorbs quickly and also layers well with sunscreen. You can browse some of my other Vitamin C skincare faves in this edit.

Royal Fern Phytoactive Skin Perfecting Essence*

I love the Royal Fern range and this treatment lotion is packed with fruit acids, gluconolactone and fern extracts to refresh and smooth the complexion, protect against environmental aggressors and boost collagen production. Works well for oily/combination skin too.

Susanne Kaufmann Blue Light Defence + Moisturising Mist*

A new launch from Susanne Kaufmann, this soothing and hydrating facial mist is formulated with silk extract and Q10. It offers a protective layer to reduce the effects of daily oxidative stress from both the environment and increasing exposure to blue light. If your city skin is often feeling inflamed, this is great to have as a handbag essential.

Alex Steinherr x Primark Pollution Solution Collection

In particular, the Dual Textured Exfoliating Pads are infused with lactic acid, PHA and niacinamide for gentle exfoliation and the revival of a dulled city skin complexion. After a long day, the City Modelling Mask is perfect to soothe and purify the skin with a combination of hyaluronic acid, amino acids and allantoin.

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules*

These help build a strong and healthy skin barrier. There are a few versions of these capsules but I highly recommend incorporating the Vitamin C Ceramide and Hyaluronic Ceramide Capsules into your regime.

Aurelia The Probiotic Concentrate*

A potent probiotic peptide blend designed to support your skin’s natural collagen and hyaluronic acid levels. You can mix this in with your moisturiser too and it encourages a smoother, glowing and healthier complexion.
