It’s important to be diligent with cleansing, no matter the season, but Summer can also bring its own skin challenges. It’s the most demanding months for oily, breakout-prone skins. And for most of us, the increased perspiration tends to build up pore blockages and lead to more blemishes. What to do? Choose inflammation-quenching and bacteria-combatting topicals and reach for a good purifying mask treatment. Here are five of my best face masks to deep clean the skin. And if you’re looking to complete a summer skin sunday facial, check out my top lightweight moisturisers and fresh rinse-off cleansers

Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask* – Omorovicza is one of those luxury brands I reach for when my skin is in need of a treat. I adore this deep cleansing mask packed with mineral-rich Hungarian Moor mud and Hungarian water. It contains magnesium to awaken the skin and boost dull, tired complexions. This is a brilliant mask to draw out impurities and reveal fresh, bright skin.

Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask* – What I love about this Fresh mask is that although it’s a deep cleaning clay it doesn’t dehydrate or leave the skin feeling tight. A great choice for oilier skins as it offers a smooth, more matte finish to the skin. Alongside the hero purifying ingredient Umbrian clay, it has calming additions of sandalwood oil, chamomile flower and lavender water. Whilst I prefer this as a mask treatment, you can also use a small amount on damp skin for a deep wash-off cleanse.

Shiseido Waso Purifying Peel Off Mask* – This is the mask to choose if you’re looking for a deep cleanse that also calms. A reset for the skin with vitamin-rich Japanese shiso leaf extract for added radiance. This mask has a pretty pink metallic finish that you need to leave on for at least 20 minutes until it’s tacky and ready to peel off. This isn’t a “wash and go” type of mask. Definitely one to choose for a sunday facial or when you have time to relax and enjoy some masking time. It leaves skin feeling refreshed and glowing.

Barbara Sturm Face Mask* – One of my favourites in a base of kaolin clay with aloe vera and chamomile extracts. It contains the antioxidant plant active purslane which features across the Barbara Sturm range. Purslane helps to protect the skin from free radical damage. What sets this apart from other cleansing masks is that not only does it deeply cleanse but delivers hydration leaving you with soft, supple skin. One I’d recommend for dryer/dehydrated skins.

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque* – I’m a huge fan of Kiehl’s skincare, particularly their Dermatologist Solutions range, but this mask from the Rare Earth collection is brilliant. It uses amazonian white clay to deep cleanse the skin and draw out impurities whilst helping to clear blackheads. It’s balanced with aloe and oatmeal for soothing benefits. The perfect pick for oily skin types. Whilst it offers a thorough deep cleanse it does so gently without leaving the skin feeling tight or dry.
