This week’s Sunday Facial is a soothing and caring routine. Something to cocoon my skin and give it a repairing helping hand. This last week has been busy and when I travel the sleep deprivation and changes to my routine catches up to me. When you feel exhausted, your immune system is compromised, it does reflect on your skin. My skin was feeling stressed, dehydrated and looking tired but this routine really calmed and nourished it whilst making me feel a lot better. I’ve reached for products that are cooling, soothing and super hydrating. As I always say, these Sunday Facials are not just about the physical skincare steps but also the ritual of self-care and taking a moment to step-back and unwind.

Step 1: Cleanse

Starting with a new cleanser from Allies of Skin. The Molecular Silk Amino Hydrating Cleanser* is a pH balanced, very gentle, soap-free formulation. It has organic safflower and moringa oils so I massage it onto dry skin so it adheres for better removal of product and environmental pollutants from the day. Then with damp hands I massage in again emulsifying the cleanser to a milky consistency. With the hyaluronic acid and silk amino acids it is very skin conditioning. It also has a tiny bit of lactic acid which does help bring about smoothness and a stable form of Vitamin C to brighten.

Step 2: Mask

The iS Clinical Hydra Intensive Cooling Mask is one I love to calm and refresh my skin. It also works well for oily or blemish-prone skin with its lightweight gel texture. I apply a thick layer leaving it on for 10 minutes. It does have a slight menthol feel to it (be careful around the eye area) but it really leaves my skin feeling fresh. With a hydrating base of aloe vera and hyaluronic acid alongside antioxidants resveratrol and rosemary leaf my skin drinks this up and looks and feels calmer.

Step 3: Hydration

Multiple layers of hydration is definitely a skincare method I’m always happy to subscribe to. I start with a lotion/essence layer. Today I’m using the new Dior Capture Totale Cell Energy High Performance Treatment Serum-Lotion*. I don’t consider these as toners but rather a light hydration layer that pre-soaks the skin so that any serums/creams/oils you apply afterwards get “locked in”. I apply with my hands and just pat on.

Whilst my skin is still damp from the Dior Lotion, I apply my serum. I’m loving the new Elemis Peptide Antioxidant Hydra-Serum*. It’s the latest addition to their Peptide 4 range which you know I love (especially the eye cream). You can also use this serum in your morning routine. It feels super soft and gentle on the skin whilst offering that antioxidant protection.

The Biossance Squalane+Peptide Eye Gel* has been my go-to eye cream for awhile now. I’m so excited that this brand is now being sold in the UK at Cult Beauty. This eye gel has one of my favourite ingredients, squalane, alongside aloe, glycerin and niacinamide to soothe and hydrate. The gel formulation makes it easy for me to include a little massage around the eye area and get that micro-circulation going.

Another hydrating hero product of mine is the QMS Hydro Foam Hydrating Recovery Mask*. I adore this German skincare brand and this is a product I can’t live without – I sometimes leave the mask on overnight to just sink in slowly.  It pumps out as a shaving foam texture that you massage onto the skin and leave it to sink in. You can then rinse off the excess if you wish. It is super calming, anti-inflammatory and contains silk proteins and hyaluronic acid (at a high molecular weight) so you get brilliant surface hydration and super plump, smooth skin. I sometimes will apply makeup straight after this mask – it creates a wonderful skin base. It does have a tiny amount of retinol in it which is utilised as an antioxidant rather than for a strong cell turnover function. The retinol is not to any level that would be skin irritating.

My skin feels nourished, plumped and glowing after this mask so I will skip on any additional moisturisers. As a final step, I’m using the Rodial Pink Diamond Lip and Eye Filler which I discovered a few weeks ago. The metal applicator feels cooling. The shea butter, hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E formulation is conditioning but not greasy or heavy leaving a nice gloss finish.
