Squalane is one of my favourite skincare ingredients – you’ve probably heard me mention it alot! Squalane is a stable hydrocarbon that’s naturally found in the skin. Whilst it’s technically a humectant (because it’s so light) it’s actually very emollient. A versatile skin ingredient that can benefit most skin types and can feature in both your morning and evening routines.

Why should you include squalane in your skincare routine?
It nourishes and cushions the skin for hydration and repairing the skin barrier. It smooths fine lines, is antibacterial and protects against oxidative damage. Squalane’s super lightweight formulation doesn’t leave a greasy feel on the skin – whether formulated in an oil or cream. I’d recommend it for all skin types – especially during colder months or if you’re exposed to dry climates.
My Top 5 Squalane Skincare Products
The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser* – An affordable way to introduce squalane into your skincare routine. This cream melts into an oil in the palms of your hands and dissolves makeup well. Gentle and nourishing, it won’t leave your skin feeling tight afterwards. It also contains malic acid to improve skin texture by exfoliating away dead skin and impurities.
Indie Lee Squalane Oil* – Squalane in oil form creates a non-sticky formulation that feels super light on the skin. This Indie Lee Oil is one of my favourites. During the colder months, or when my skin needs further nourishment, I’ll use this as an extra layer to seal in my moisturiser.
Alex Steinherr for Primark Maximum Moisture Every Day Moisturiser – Of course you can expect that squalane would feature in my own skincare range. Another affordable way to include this ingredient in your routine. Formulated with squalane and amaranth oil to nourish and maintain your skin’s natural barrier. A simple and effective layer of hydration – particularly if your skin is going through a dry spell.
BIOSSANCE Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel* – A super hydrating eye gel that revives a dehydrated eye area to bring about plumped, firmer skin. It also contains niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and Swiss apple stem cell extract. The entire Biossance range is vegan and contains sustainably sourced squalane.
